We spent the Easter week-end in the Morvan. Really welcomed break after the Brussels tragedies. Morvan is a beautiful protected park, part of the Burgundy region, otherwise famous for its vineyards. However, that part isn't on the same side and it often misleads people on where exactly I'm going for the holidays if I tell them only the region name. (recipe for natural egg dye below)First Easter activity, we did that natural egg dye thing.

Something I remembered from childhood but got various inspiration here, here and here. They explain the proper recipe much better than I will do. I cooked the dyes first, without the vinegar. I added the vinegar after, once it was in a glass pot and a bit cooled down.Red cabbage for the blue/green, yellow onion skins for the dark orange ones, red beet with red onion skins for the light orange ones and turmeric for the yellow ones. The later didn't work so well. Maybe I didn't put enough or maybe I put too much vinegar (it tends to dilute the colour). Then I put flowers and either pieces of tights or gauze. They stayed in the pots the whole night and voila! Pretty pleased but looking forward to have some white eggs next year to do it.We did a small and quick egg hunt as the weather wasn't on our side. Also our nice English neighbours were offering nicely a common one but still, they had to have both:I did a little week-end film that sums it up more or less:Morvan is a quite low mountain with beautiful landscapes. It's not grapes you'll see but more pine trees and cows. I'll come back to you with more summery pictures at some point (this was really winter meets autumn meets spring )but just as well the sun came for a visit at some point:I really love my mum's place, full of vintage stuff and really quiet countryside around there (maybe a bit too quiet for me in the long run, but for a week-end, it's great! And a few more outtakes:Hope you enjoyed your Easter too.
