wrapping eco fabric recycling

Eco-present wrapping made beautiful with fabrics

December 12, 2018

After making a wreaths wall, how about not using too many new things to wrap your presents this year? And how about using no plastic and something you can recycle and people you give the presents to, can reuse?

I usually used ecological wrappings before. But this year, following my sister's food steps (she is totally zero waste), I decided to only use fabrics to wrap this year's presents:I have been wanting to do this for some time. I watched my sister go strongly zero waste for the last years. And she always wraps her present with wrapping she made herself. I did quite an extensive search for inspirations and ideas. You can see some of my findings on my pinterest board.

I have an extensive load of fabric that I don't use. And I also have a handful of kitchen towels that I can give away. These are the kinds I used to wrap those presents. The only thing I bought was this velvet ribbon from Granit. Because who can resist this burgundy velvet beauty, right? And also the little recycled tags to use some of the stamps I already had.

So I gathered some threads I use a lot for wreaths and some dried plants I had (or foraged around me). I love to use thuja or dried heather, they make really good additions to the wrapping.

I tried different wrapping technics. There are some beautiful japanese type of wrapping on my pinterest board. It's called Furoshiki. You can make pretty knots are the top pulling the four corners or end up with a flower like look (that you can see on the picture.).

I also did some more classical wrapping. Just making sure the fabric stays on with the thread I put around. But I warn you for this type: use fabrics which are a bit heavy or not too souple. Otherwise it slips. But you could also use safety pins or saw a little point with a thread.

So what ecological step will you take during this Christmas period?
