Flowers to fight winter gloom

January 29, 2019

When there are gloomy days, I find nothing more cheering and comforting than having flowers around me. It brings me straight to brighter and more colourful days. And definitely uplift my mood. In a quick post, I'm just going to tell you how I make a flower bouquet last a little longer. So that your home stays joyful a little more and so can your happiness:

First you have to buy a big bunch of flowers. Either by single bunches you put together or in a bouquet made by a florist. I tend to avoid the latter unless I go to my friend at La frénésie or florists I know will not make me a round bouquet with greens I won't know what to do with.

For those of you who don't know much about flowers, remember that to make your flowers last longer you have to:

  • Cut them with a knife sideways (if you feel unsure, cut it with a secateur)

  • Put very little water in your vase (max 1/3 of the height)

  • Your vase must be very clean

  • Change the water after 3-4 days max

When you see your bouquet starting to decline a bit (you can also do it right from the start),put out all the flowers out, leaving maybe some part of the bouquet in the big vase you have started with. Have the rest in little posies together depending on how well they go together.

You can use some of the same techniques as for the winter wreaths I explained in an earlier post. Just look at them together, intertwine them in various ways. And then cut them short, remembering to do it sideways too. I use various pots and small vases. It doesn't have to be a beautiful one! I use food jars from shops or like these from Dille and Kamille or Ikea.

Do you get the gist? It's really easy and then you can place all these little posies everywhere and your house almost looks like it's spring. You can even do it with dried flowers too! Is it giving you some ideas? Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help!
