We spent ten days at my father's summer house in Vendée. More precisely in Brétignolles sur mer. I only did a 52 portrait session before there. Oh, and all the picture in my latest Smoke bomb portrait session! In all honesty, I didn't like that region at first. I thought Brittany (above) or Charente Maritime with it's Oléron and Ré islands (below) were much nicer. But it grew on me. And now I see all of its beautiful sides and I want to show you a little bit of what I liked this time around:
One of the features of Vendée I enjoy particularly (similar to two regions above and below) are the blue doors and windows. It gave me the idea of creating a hashtag for it on Instagram (which you should check obviously) #inthemoodforbluedoors . I'm not going to overflow this post with all the ones I took, you can certainly have a look on my page or on the link for it. But you'll see some throughout our visit.Brétignolles has great beaches, with not many constructions behind and lots of waves. Basically, ideal place for surfers. But it has also areas with less waves that are ok for smaller kids too. Lots of families come here with small children so I'm guessing it's ok. The beach called "La Normandelière" or "La Parée" are the best ones in that regard. Spot the mermaid:I also love the countryside around my father's place. It's nothing special, but filled with summer flowers and worth hanging around when not by the sea:But mostly, my kids enjoy the surfing when we go there. Best beach for that matter, if you are insterested, is "Les Dunes":I would also recommend to go to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie and get to the old town. It's really beautiful (and, oh, lots of blue doors):What I love to do as well is to spend the day in Ile d'Yeu. Beautiful island, looking very much like Brittany with rocks and wild sea. We rent bikes and you can do the tour of the island (or less if you are with children like us). It's so beautiful! You take the boat from Saint Gilles and in an hour you are there. It didn't start with very good weather but bad weather makes beautiful moody landscape. However, when the sun finally came, it was magical:We find our little beach there and we usually stop and bathe (the kids, not me!). And then we cross the island half way to take the boat back in the port. It has nice little streets there too just like in Saint Gilles:I can't say Brétignolles is the most beautiful town but there are some hidden gems. And the beaches are worth it!You can also go to other places in Vendée. Lots of things to visit, towns to go to. You have an amazing light show in Puy du Fou if that's your sort of things. You can go to the Sables d'Olonne to see the boat race "Vendée globe" or have a delicious "crêpe". Many walks and rides in the countryside, with salt marshes or castles. But this was just a glimpse to make you want to go. If you have any other questions or places you wonder about, let me know, I can give you the tips you may need! This is already on Instagram, but I love the way she still plays with old toys and invent millions of stories.I hope you enjoyed this post. Next post: Morvan in the summer. Let me know if you have enjoyed this post and if you would like to know more about the region. Next post: Morvan in the summer. Stay tuned!
